Dredging

Maintenance dredging is a routine part of port operations to remove a build-up of sediment. This maintains the declared depths of shipping channels, berths, approaches and associated swing basins for the safe operation of shipping.

All maintenance dredging in the Port of Melbourne is undertaken in accordance with an approved Environmental Management Plan (EMP).

Maintenance dredging will take place in the port precinct in January 2018 in line with the following indicative schedule (PDF).

The dredging works will be undertaken by the Sweep Tug Edi.
